CHAPTER 1

Borek expected an ambush. He had enough enemies, and he was back in Redpoint.

So as he turned into the tight alley off of Old Street, and just before the Serpent’s Way, he was not surprised to see a slight, cloaked figure approaching him between the tall buildings. The gait was halting, and he loosened his sword in its scabbard. The moonlight was blocked here, but the dim starlight was enough that he could see there were no other figures in the dark space.

He checked once over his shoulder, back toward the ill-lit street winding through this part of the Thieves’ Quarter, then halted and waited. The figure reached him and a thin, feminine voice said, “Follow me.” She continued toward the way he had come from. Continue reading “Followers of the Forbidden Circle – Chapter One”

Coming Soon: A Serialized S&S Novel

One of the things I wondered about before starting up this blog was the wisdom of publishing my fiction on it. There are, unsurprisingly, differing viewpoints on it around the web. The main opinion for, is that people can read your writing and you can build a following that way. The main argument against, is that when you put your fiction on the web, it is “published” and you can never sell that fiction again for First Publication Rights (i.e. the best possible rates). As someone who would love to make a living from writing, it poses a bit of a dilemma. Continue reading “Coming Soon: A Serialized S&S Novel”

Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World

Been a while since my last post! I’ve got a lot of ideas, still putting them together.

But I have been painting a bit, too. These are old Ral Partha sculpts, recently brought back into production by Ironwind Metals. 12 skeleton archers, 12 skeleton warriors, 12 goblin warriors, three elves, and a wizard. These (and many more) will soon show up in the Greywater Chronicles.

Speaking of which – Issue 3 is delayed at the printer! Hopefully by this weekend…

Anyway, I hope you are all well, and thanks for looking!

Greywater Chronicles Issue #2

Hello, brothers and sisters,

Hope you are all well!

Today brings another all-out action-packed issue of the Greywater Chonicles!

Again, this seems to be the best way to view the pages, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I’m all ears (well, eyes)!

The third issue will be played this weekend, and be formatted early next week.

Hope you enjoy it! Few of the adventurers did!

The Fantasy Trip

When Steve Jackson re-acquired the rights to the Fantasy Trip, lost when he parted ways Metagaming, he made it clear there would be a Kickstarter for Melee and Wizard. Melee was the combat module for TFT, Wizard was the magic rulebook. The Kickstarter is scheduled for July 23rd.

Our company, Dark City Games, made a clone of Melee/Wizard back in 2005, when the games had been out of print for over 20 years, and made programmed adventures similar to the old Microquests. This puts us in a bit of an odd position, and we are not sure where we stand with Steve Jackson Games now. He had mentioned on his forums the possibility of buying our adventures, but that was five or six months ago and we have not heard from him since.

At any rate, we are still publishing adventures for our bastardized version of TFT called Legends of the Ancient World. I also intend to support the re-launched TFT on Kickstarter. I hope you all do as well!

Review of Tales from the Magician’s Skull #1

Review of Tales From the Magician’s Skull #1

There is a revival of the Sword and Sorcery genre afoot. TFTMS is the most recent artifact of the movement. It acknowledges Appendix N as its main influence; given that its publisher, Goodman Games, claims the same about its Dungeon Crawl Classics role-playing game (and the inclusion of game stats for DCC at the back of the magazine for each story), this is no surprise. Appendix N is hot right now. Continue reading “Review of Tales from the Magician’s Skull #1”
