Gaming Resources and Props

This page of my blog will focus on some tools for my gaming. Most of these will be links to items I use from Amazon. These are affiliate links; if you add the item to your cart and make the purchase within 24 hours, I will get 3% of the sale (of all items in your cart at that time). This does not cost you extra, the price is the same, it is a commission of sorts. So if you are going to buy anything expensive from Amazon, please do it after adding one of these to your cart! Thanks!!

This list is a work in progress; more stuff will be added over time, as I get a chance to acquire and use the items.

Rules: There are many different rules for fantasy roleplaying, thought the most popular is Dungeons and dragons, currently in its Fifth Edition. I love D&D, but I have more for The Fantasy Trip, which lays a bit more like a Sword & Sorcery story. We have our own rules, Legends of the Ancient World, based on TFT – these are free on the darkcitygames.com website. Here are some links to TFT and D&D on Amazon (for D&D, you need the Player’s Handbook at a minimum, while the DM needs the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual as well):

TFT Legacy Edition:

The pocket Edition of Melee and Wizard, which is all you really need for S&S adventure:

D&D:

Torches/lanterns for figures: I started using these and they’re pretty cool; they free up my cut glass squares for spell effects exclusively, rather than doing double duty as light source indicators. You can see these being used starting with Greywater Chronicles Issue 3.

Cheap Houses: I got these earlier this year, and they are decent prints for the price. They’ll make an appearance when the action moves out of the dungeon!

There is also a set of four which I will be getting later:

Dungeon Tiles: I use Dwarven Forge plastic tiles mostly, as I got a lot during their first two Kickstarters. Despite the amount of Dwarven Forge I have, I like to get a few other brands and paint them in different styles. This set is inexpensive, and a nice way to get started or add to your existing stash of tiles. I have these and you will see them a few issues down the road.

Music: Music can enhance a gaming section, particularly combats. Here are some of my favorites:

Conan Soundtrack: Hell yes.

Digital version:

Age of Conan game: Never played the game but the music is great.

Baldur’s Gate soundtrack: The game was pretty cool, and so was the music!
