New Page: Sword & Sorcery Authors

I finally put together a rudimentary page of great S&S authors. It is going to be an ongoing project, updated and expanded at least weekly, though the next several days will see a lot of activity. Many will have Amazon links if they are still in print; these are affiliate links, so if you add them to your cart, and purchase them within 24 hours of placing them in the cart, I get 3% of Amazon’s profit as a commission. Thanks in advance!

The new page is at the bottom of the header image on the right, and evidently as you scroll down it remains at the top of the page. I’m not real happy with its placement there, as it covers up part of the header image, so I’ll be working on that as well shortly.

Slings and Arrows

It has been 60 days since I submitted two stories featuring Kabor to two different online magazines. I have not heard back from either of them. I think it’s safe to say that at this point, they’ve been rejected.

As a reader of swords & sorcery, I am critical but forgiving. I enjoy the genre, even if I find flaws in many of the stories I read. I am almost always thinking, I can do better than this.

But evidently not; at least not yet. Continue reading “Slings and Arrows”

Followers of the Forbidden Circle – Chapter 4

Chapter 4

“The Order of the Gorgon has never performed any worthy deed,” Tharia said. “And my memory is long.”

Lassedd inclined his head forward. “Your memory stretches at least ten times the length of my own insignificant life.”

Borek looked about the tavern. It was an old building, squatting on the water’s edge of the Thieves’ Quarter and facing the river. He remembered it as being the haunt of pirates and smugglers, but now it seemed to be a retreat for orcs and goblins, ill-lit by clumps of dark candles. The bartender was a fat orc, and had sneered at their entrance, his gray skin pasty in the gloom.

They had taken a table in a corner where they could watch the half-empty great-room. Borek kept an eye on one group of three particularly dirty orcs that would hurl glances his way and mutter among themselves.

A goblin bar-wench approached. Borek mused on that strange race, more diverse than even humanity. Tall or short, smart or stupid, refined or savage, ugly or attractive, and everything in between, they were unified only by their green skin. Most had some innate magical ability, even if untapped, as they were one of the three fae races, along with elves and gnomes.

Apologies for the delay!

They left the dwarf’s shop back out into the murmuring night and walked a short distance to a small court, shielded from the moons, where there were few people. They stood in the shadows and watched the streets beside them.

“I now know the name,” Borek said. “All that remains is to find out everything about them.”

“It is probably no use to go back to Elzy. She would charge the same amount for that information.”

“I suppose I could speak with a sage. There are a variety of those in Redpoint.”

“Or a church. There is a library at the temple of Solarrmys, and I doubt they would charge you to consult it.” She turned her hooded head slightly to him. “Particularly if you are a worshiper.”

Tales From The Magician’s Skull #2 Arrived

It’s been quiet here the last couple of weeks!

Tales From the Magician’s Skull #2 showed up in the mail yesterday. Very excited to go through it! I should have a review of it on here in the next couple of weeks.

Also coming in the next week will be Greywater Chronicles issue #4 and the delayed third chapter of Followers of the Forbidden Circle.

Greywater Chronicles Issue 3

Greywater Chronicles Issue 3 is back from the printer!

Sorry about the delay. The guys at plasq who make Comic Life 3 are great!

This issue is 13 pages long, including the cover.

I will try to stick to an every-other-week schedule for the comic in the future.

I am still thinking about making some pdf’s available – more next issue!

I hope you enjoy it!

Edit: I went over this 4 times, and still I find typos! Gah! I’ll correct the masters, but on page 2, “Bllod” Knights should be “Blood” Knights. Sheesh!

Also – I am using the Litko lanterns and torches now. I think they’re pretty cool, and better than using the plastic squares, which I prefer for spell effects (like fire, shadow, etc.).

The Third Issue of the Greywater Chronicles…

Hello, all,

The third issue has been delayed because of technical issues in the upgrade from the trial version to the bought-and-paid for version of Comic Life 3. The serial number does not seem to unlock the registration process. I have been in communication with plasq to resolve this issue, and hopefully it will be taken care of in a couple of day. I really like the software, and want to get it resolved.

Thanks, and I’ll have another update when things are fixed.

I’ll also be posting an update later today when The Fantasy Trip Kickstarter goes live.

CHAPTER 2

“Borek,” he said in response to her question.

“And I am Tharia.”

“So I gathered. How are you feeling, now?”

The elf’s hands were cupped around a clay bowl of Myrtle’s stew. She leaned back in her chair, back against the old stone wall of the kitchen. “Great.”

He laughed. That was unlikely, but he appreciated her courage. “Then we should leave.”

“Why do you care about Vormann?” She looked up at him with her single violet eye.

He chafed at the further delay, but he answered her. Maybe he owed her that, since he was taking her into further danger. “Seven years or so ago, I was a gladiator slave here in Redpoint. He purchased me, and educated me. I served him as a guard. Then he set me free.”

“Where did you go?”

“Away.” Continue reading “Followers of the Forbidden Circle – Chapter Two”
