Shades’ Hollow Issue 1

Here is the first issue. It comprises the first four turns, from midnight to the end of 3 AM. Theoretically, that means this will be an 8 issue series, but as factions get thinned out…probably not.

Getting back into producing comics, I am trying to balance conveying both the movement and the action in an enjoyable manner. Hope it is not boring!

These pictures are at a lower resolution than the last…not sure it will make any difference in viewing, but it makes uploading a lot faster!

So:

Comic: Shades’ Hollow Issue #0

I have completed 7 turns of the game so far, and I’m enjoying it. I’ll put it all in comic form later, but for now, here are the terrain and factions distilled into comic form. This info has more or less been posted here already, but not in this supercool format!

Not sure if it is better to do the comics in the next gen gallery or the inherent picture thing; I’ll do it this way and try to make up my mind.

Hope you enjoy!

Factions in Shades’ Hollow

The game will cover 24 hours of time, from midnight to midnight. At that point, winners and losers will be determined. I want this adventure to have a finite length; I can of course keep going from that point, but I wanted clear objectives for this experiment.

Rules beyond the LAW system will be: 1. Hourly strategic movement of 24″ on the board; 2. Random events rolled every hour starting at 1AM; 3. the factions can raise more troops either by recruiting or convincing those who show up in random events; and I guess that is it.

Here are the competing factions:

This is the demonspawn Xokk, and his companions Vux the Sorceress and Marros Glaime. He is the primary driver of the adventure. He is trying to splice the remains of his dead demonic mother’s soul to his own. He must gather three items from across the board, and perform a ritual at midnight at the chaotic shrine. His allies are necromancers and can raise undead, as well as mind control others to join them. The three items of power are the Eye of Argon (might sound familiar to those steeped in the lore of S&S), the vase containing the physical remains of his mother, and the Scroll of Eibon.

Update: Photos are now working, after I contacted Bluehost – they upped my PHP limits, whatever the heck that is. Afterwards, I got “not a valid json response” a few times, but they uploaded on the second attempts for each.

So Long, Stan

Stan Lee had a powerful influence on me when I was young, and obviously on this blog.

My earliest memories of any literature, aside from Green Eggs and Ham, were Conan the Barbarian comic books from Marvel. #11, Rogues in the House, was my first. Those issues were written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Barry Windsor Smith, but they had what I later came to understand as the Marvel style; the dramatic art, action, and pathos in the storylines.

And currently, in this blog, I am publishing gaming reports in comic book form. These are done intentionally in the 70’s Marvel style.

There will be a lot written about his character and his influence; I just want to say: Thanks, Stan.

Excelsior!

Greywater Chronicles Issue 6

I definitely won’t keep up this pace of an issue every week and a half! But I would like to get a few more out by the end of the year.

Anyway, we meet some more villains this issue, and ask some more questions.

Hope you guys are enjoying the series! Thanks for reading.

Edit: Only one typo so far!

Greywater Chronicles Issue 5

Hello, all!

Here is the latest issue of the Greywater Chronicles! Characters old and new, my Cavern terrain from Dwarven Forge, and an ancient idol all show up! This issue is dedicated to Dave Arneson, as Sir Norvan and his companions brave the Temple of the Frog!

Edit: So I already found 2 typos! Sheesh!

Greywater Chronicles Issue 3

Greywater Chronicles Issue 3 is back from the printer!

Sorry about the delay. The guys at plasq who make Comic Life 3 are great!

This issue is 13 pages long, including the cover.

I will try to stick to an every-other-week schedule for the comic in the future.

I am still thinking about making some pdf’s available – more next issue!

I hope you enjoy it!

Edit: I went over this 4 times, and still I find typos! Gah! I’ll correct the masters, but on page 2, “Bllod” Knights should be “Blood” Knights. Sheesh!

Also – I am using the Litko lanterns and torches now. I think they’re pretty cool, and better than using the plastic squares, which I prefer for spell effects (like fire, shadow, etc.).

Greywater Chronicles Issue #2

Hello, brothers and sisters,

Hope you are all well!

Today brings another all-out action-packed issue of the Greywater Chonicles!

Again, this seems to be the best way to view the pages, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I’m all ears (well, eyes)!

The third issue will be played this weekend, and be formatted early next week.

Hope you enjoy it! Few of the adventurers did!
