New Arrivals

Got several books in recently. Last two days brought Tales From the Magician’s Skull #4 (and some assorted paraphernalia), which I have been looking forward to, and Flame and Crimson, which is a history of Sword & Sorcery fiction that I have been wanting to read. Very much looking forward to digging into both of these.

Before I review those, though, I am finishing up a book sent to me, Dice or Die, about RPG campaigns. It is an epic work in an eccentric style. In another week I should be done and post my thoughts on it.

There are a handful of books I finished a while ago that I have not yet reviewed, for various reasons. If I do, I’ll have to go back and refresh my memory on them, and come to terms with why I haven’t written about them yet.

Currently I am editing an adventure for Dark City Games, and it is a lot of work. It is a nice adventure, but those that are not written by George or me always require extensive rewriting, as they rarely follow the format and standards we’ve had established for 15 years. Most adventure submissions we receive are not worth the time to re-edit. That is not insulting the authors’ work, just an acknowledgement that after all, we could just as easily invest that time in a new adventure of our own. But this is a good one. Science fiction.

I’ve been on a roll with the Greywater Chronicles, and hate to get too far away from it. There is a lot happening, a lot of dice-generated carnage to recount. In addition to the main story of Sir Norvan’s quest to eradicate the K’Tuuluu cult, there are the priests of Mithras and the remnants of the Blood Knights, and their cleansing of the chamber containing their god’s blood (from issue 3). There are also those rogues who banded together at the end of Shades’ Hollow #5, who said they were going to raid Greywater. And I like Brak Morn’s band; mightn’t he want some revenge against the Cult for what it did to his sister (how is her recovery, anyway)? And there were some elves that survived the Shades’ Hollow action, that were going to catch up with Ronaime! And I have some new terrain to show off! I am hoping the next issue will not be any longer than 2 weeks away, whatever the hell it ends up depicting!

And of course I need to get back to the Megadungeon Faction Alphabet! I am halfway through that project; next up is the letter N.

So, lots to do, lots happening here under distant suns! We’ll see a substantive post tomorrow, by Crom!
